The Question in Brief
In your opinion, is equitable, inclusive education important? Why or why not?

Waleed Qirbi
In my opinion, the educational system provided by government funding needs to be equitable and inclusive to all members of society.  Fundamentally, this entails that the Canadian government has a responsibility to ensure that education is provided to all citizens of the country.

At the Provincial and Municipal levels, the levels of government responsible for financing, directing, and managing the public educational institutions in their jurisdiction, there is a clear requirement that all children in the province should have access to at least a minimum level of education, and that access to this education is universal.

The School Board has a clear mandate to ensure that every child is provided their access to education, and each child should be provided the life skills needed to allow them to live a life that permits them to reach their full potential.  This being said, whether “Gifted”, physically or mentally challenged, or simply “Mainstream”, every child is entitled to access to a safe, healthy environment with proper instruction, and the tools need for them to learn to the full potential.

If we want our children to flourish as adults, and to see our country remain competitive in a global economy with full employment, we need to invest in our children’s education from the outset.
