This Child Friendly Community Conference is linked to the J’Nikira Dinqinesh Education Centre-Every Child Is Sacred (JDEC-ECIS) initiative, which June Girvan, a local human rights activist, began for her children and is named for them. Her work is based on the rights of the child. It is articulated by June’s interpretation  of the Nativity Story and also the United Nations  Convention on the Rights of the Child and UNICEF’s Child Friendly Cities initiative.  Each year,  the JDEC-ECIS observes Canada’s Child Day, on November 20. The Day is proclaimed by His worship Mayor Jim Watson. The focus of Child Friendly Community Day in Ottawa 2020 is, “The traumatic formative years of John A  Macdonald”. The theme is “Give me a child until he is seven and I will show you the man” (‘Aristotle) and “The biggest man that you ever did see was once a baby.” (Bob Marley)
