Putting Kanata First
I want Kanata (Zone 2) to be the focus of its representative to the OCDSB. For over 8 years, the representatives of Zone 2 have not let their primary focus be KANATA, and that is not their primary role.
I continue consulting with parents in Kanata in order to have the best understanding of the needs of our youth and our community. This will give me the ability to best represent Kanata to the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
As your Trustee for Zone 2, I will make sure that the NEEDS OF KANATA ARE ALWAYS MY TOP PRIORITY when representing my constituents to the Board of Education.
Kanata’s students have unique needs, as do our schools, including;
- ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL IN ZONE 2.
- ENSURING OUR SCHOOL FACILITIES ARE SECOND TO NONE.
- NEED FOR A HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM DIRECTED AT HIGH TECH IN KANATA.
- REDUCTION OF PORTABLES TO ENSURING EACH CHILD IS IN AN INDOOR CLASSROOM.
- A COMMITMENT TO BRINGING ATTENTION TO MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS IN OUR SCHOOLS.
- ENSURE THAT THE NEEDS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS.
- A PROMISE TO MAKE KANATA’S SCHOOLS A SAFE PLACE FOR OUR CHILDREN.
For nearly 20 years, I have worked in the field of IT with a special interest in Adaptive Technology. I have seen that while there are a number of highly effective tools available to assist our youth through the education process,and help them reach the next level of education, and achieve their career goals, these technologies are not always made available by the Board of Education. I will fight on behalf of our schools to ensure that the best of these technologies are made available in a cost effective manner.
Promote Fairness
In every school, the key is ensuring that every child has an opportunity to learn and excel. My priority will be to ensure that Kanata gets access to the best teachers, support workers, and facilities so that our children will be able to have the greatest opportunity for success in the future.
In addition, I want to ensure that every child in every school has equal access to every resource. There is no reason why any child should not have an opportunity to succeed.
We have 13 Elementary Schools and 2 High Schools In our Zone, and I want to ensure that each of them is an equal opportunity for success for its students.
Protect our children
I believe that it is essential that our schools are safe environments for learning. There is no room for bullying, violence, racism, sexism; and we need to celebrate the diversity of our community in the classroom. A healthy classroom leads to healthy school environments, and healthy communities. My primary goal is to ensure that our schools are the best environment for learning.
Empower the Community
The purpose of the OCDSB is to serve its clients: the students, their families, and the citizens of the community. It is important for the representative of the OCDSB, your School Board Trustee, always remain in consultation with the constituents of the Zone in order to ensure that the needs of the community come first.
My most important role, if elected your representative, would be to improve the communication between the Board of Education, the City of Ottawa, the Provincial Government, and Our Community by continuously consulting with the constituency.
Work to Improve the Board
I will work with the Board of the OCDSB to contribute to the benefit of the entire community while representing Kanata. I will do my utmost to ensure that their is GOOD GOVERNANCE with all decisions, and provide a careful scrutiny to the spending of our tax dollars.
As a business owner with an MBA, I will use my FINANCIAL SKILLS to ensure that the funds of taxpayers are not wasted, but invested properly for the community. In addition, with my MEDIATION EXPERIENCE, I will work to ensure that our Community, the School Board, and the City are able to maintain a productive dialogue that will ENSURE PROGRESS.
